Art at St Martha’s is an integral part of the school curriculum and is celebrated and encouraged throughout the school. We aim to engage and involve all our children to develop a knowledge and appreciation of all art forms.
Our progressive curriculum covers drawing and mark making, working with colour, printing and sculpture. Schemes of work are carefully planned to investigate line, pattern, form, shape, proportion and colour through a range of experiences both within the classroom and the wider world. Children are encouraged to analyse, critic and compare the work of known artists and their own ideas in sketch books, which are used throughout the school. Children are encouraged regularly to use their developing artistic skills across the whole school curriculum. We believe this builds confidence to become proficient in a variety of techniques and develop an understanding of a process within creating an art piece.
