Monday 12th April 2021
Welcome back! We hope you had a peaceful Easter break. Once again, we would like to thank you for your kind messages and support during our last term. They were greatly appreciated.
We have a few changes that we would like to let you know about for this term. We are delighted to finally welcome Mr Rideout into Year 2 Yellow who will be teaching on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. On Monday and Thursdays the class will continue to be taught by Mrs Gray and Mrs Myers. Year 2 blue will continue to be taught by Miss Jackman, supported by Mrs Loosley on a Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Gray on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Miss Holmes will continue to support through the week.
During this first half-term we will be learning all about ‘Habitats’ in geography. This will involve identifying the human and natural features of woodland habitats and the animals that live there. We will also create our own local maps to carry out field work and follow directions, linking to our positional and directional Maths learning.
We will be exploring ‘The Seaside’ in the second half-term. We will look at the history of the seaside holiday, features of the beach and oceans around the world and puppets.
In our English we will continue to look at story writing. We will be revising all areas of maths such as, time, place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, data handling, measurement, fractions, shape and problem solving to ensure a deeper understanding of these skills.
In RE, the children will explore ‘Eastertide’ and ‘How do we worship God?’. We are also hoping to have a Islamic focus week which we will confirm dates closer to the time.
Our PE days are still on Monday and Friday for year 2 yellow and Monday and Wednesday for year 2 blue; your child will continue to come into school in their PE kit on those days to ensure nothing extra is coming into class e.g. PE bags and we still ask that you dress in extra layers on those cold days.
Both classes will continue to have guided reading sessions at the start of the week and there will be a new take-away menu of homework ideas uploaded onto the school website and Jigsaw app for you to complete each week. Unfortunately, we still cannot accept home learning into school but please do feel free to send pictures of any lovely work you do at home.
Whilst COVID 19 regulations and routines are still in place, we will endeavour to keep you updates as much as possible should anything change throughout this term via Dojo, the school Jigsaw app and the website. If you have any questions until then, please do not hesitate to get in touch sooner.
We are excited to start a brand new term and hope you are too,
Year 2 Team
