Dear Parents,

Welcome to Year 1! We hope you had a fantastic summer and enjoyed the lovely weather we had. Mrs De Luca and Misss Fisher have loved hearing about what the children have been doing.

This Autumn in Year 1 within our core subjects we will focus on writing based on the book ‘The Queen’s Hat’. In maths, the children will explore place value, addition and subtraction, and shape. In science, the children will be exploring and investigating various plants and animals, with a focus on the different types of animals and how we classify them.

Throughout RE this term we will be looking at the creation story. We will be focusing on how we are thankful to God for the world he created. The children have been learning the creation song and the order that God made the world. In RHSE and PATHS we will learn about emotions, love and how we communicate with God. We will continue to have weekly collective worship assemblies where we learn to live by Jesus’ example.

In History, we will be looking at the history of our school and how it has changed over the years. This will involve investigative work of looking at past photos and interviewing people from St Martha’s past. In Geography, we will be studying the local area. We will be investigating maps of the local area and will be learning about Human and Physical features.

Year 1 will be having PE on a Monday and Thursday, so please ensure that your child comes into school in their PE kit. Some PE lessons take place outside so please ensure they have their hoodies or jumper.

Please could you make sure that reading books are in book bags everyday. We encourage you to continue to read with them at home every day and ask questions to develop their comprehension. Thank you for your support with this.

We will continue to use Google Classroom for any learning from home when necessary.

If you have questions throughout the term, please contact us on Class Dojo.

Many Thanks,

Mrs DeLuca, Miss Fisher and all the Year 1 team.
