Letters Home

Year 1

    Friday 16th April 2021

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Summer Term.  We hope you had a restful Easter break.  It is lovely to have you all back!

This term in Year 1, we will be looking at The Great Fire of London. We will be reading a range of traditional tales. The children will also have the opportunity to learn about a new artist, Jackson Pollock and in science we will be learning about growing plants.

In maths, the children will continue to practise addition and subtraction.  We will also be introducing multiplication and division.  They will be given opportunities to use their maths understanding to solve problems using money.  Fractions, time, position and directions will also be taught.

As we are in the season of Easter, throughout this term we will be teaching the Resurrection and Pentecost.

PE for both classes will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  The children may continue to wear their PE clothes and trainers on these days. Please ensure all new items of clothing are named.  We also ask that the children bring in a named water bottle every day.

Please could you make sure that your child has their reading books in their book bags every day, so that we can read as much as possible with them.  We are continuing to teach phonics every day and will put supporting activities and videos on Google Classroom.  We  ask that you continue to read with your child at home every day for ten minutes.

Thank you for your marvellous support during lockdown and remote learning.  We will continue to use Google Classroom for home learning and to support lessons in class.  Should you need to self isolate, lessons will be available every day.  If children are sick, there is no expectation for them to complete home learning.

If you have questions throughout the term, please do not hesitate to contact us on ClassDojo.

Many Thanks,

Ms McGovern and Mrs Odell
