Year 6

Last updated: May 2019

Welcome to Year 6’s class page. At St Martha’s we believe Year 6 is a special time in a child’s life. We strive to do everything we can to prepare the children for their next chapter in life, whilst also ensuring they enjoy their remaining time with us. The children in our class play a crucial role in the day-to-day life of the school, most importantly as role models to the younger children, but also in their various responsibilities across the school. We work hard but also enjoy lots of special privileges along the way.

Every year our class design and sell a product as part of their very own enterprise project. We take Year 6 on a residential trip to Kingswood, where they take part in many outdoor and adventure activities. We will also be putting on a fantastic end of year production – and this is just the beginning! We hope to make your child’s final year with us the best they’ve ever had, whilst at the same time prepare them for their next phase of education.

Every half term I will send you a copy of our curriculum and a list of important dates for your diary. Feel free to get in contact with me if you wish to have any extra information or a conversation on how to further support your child at home.

Independence is key in our class! We expect the children to be able to organise themselves with PE kits, home learning, reading, equipment and so on (Mum forgot to pack my pencil case is no longer a good enough excuse!) We hope this begins to prepare them for secondary school life and thank you for your support with this.

A few quick reminders:

Home learning is set on Fridays and due in on the following Friday. To help make home learning meaningful and helpful for the children, we usually mark home learning as a class; this helps them to see where they have succeeded, and where they have made mistakes. Therefore it is important that your child’s home learning is in on time. If children have trouble with any of the work they can come and visit me and I will be happy to help.

This half-term, P.E will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays. That being said, we often like to fit extra sessions in when we can, so the children need their kits in every day. Please remember that in the summer term pupils need to wear black shorts for P.E, rather than tracksuit bottoms.

If you ever need to contact me my e-mail address is Alternatively you can use Class Dojo or come and see me on the playground!

Thank you again for all your support,

Miss Annely and Mrs Bunting
