Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

4th January 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back to Year 4

Welcome back to school, we hope that you have had a safe and joyful Christmas. Here is an update on the weekly routine in Year 4.

What and When…

· P.E takes place on Monday and Wednesday in Year 4 Blue and Wednesday and Thursday in Year 4 Yellow. Full kits need to be in school every day as we will also be doing the daily mile. Children need track suit bottoms and trainers for football, no shin pads are needed. Please ensure that earrings are removed before your child comes to school on P.E days if your child is unable to remove them independently . Also, the kits need to be in their school yellow PE bags.

· Home learning is set on Fridays and is due in on the following Wednesday. Children need to complete one piece from the menu per week, as well as one times table activity and one SPAG activity. If your child needs help, then they can always ask us.

· Your child will have an independent reading book. To maximise their progress in reading and therefore in writing, they must read at home for 10 minutes each day, both independently and to a willing listener. Also, please continue to make comments about your child’s reading in their book, they can make comments too! Please keep an eye on your child’s reading and ensure that their reading record book is in school with their reading book, every day.

The curriculum for this term is as follows:

Literacy – This half term we will be reading Stig of the Dump by Clive King. All of our English work will be focused on this text, starting with newspaper reports. Please do not read this book at home.

Numeracy – Our numeracy will be based on division, area and fractions.

RE – The RE study programme focuses on Jesus as a teacher. We will also participate in Jewish week, paying particular attention to The Torah.

Computing – The children will be using computers to practise quick recall of times tables and learning how to blog.

Science – During this half term we will be looking at the digestive system and teeth. We will have a visit from the dentist to help us to understand why it’s so important to keep our teeth clean.

History- In history we will be investigating life from the Stone Age to the Iron Age.

P.E – This half term we will be focusing on dance with Studio 19 and football.

Design Technology- We will be looking at seasonal produce and making our own Stone Age soup or stew.

Art- We will be creating our own Stone Age pots and cave paintings.

It is really helpful to us if, when your child receives a letter requiring a reply that you respond promptly, with reply slips and money in a sealed, named envelope .

Our class Mass will be on Thursday 7 th February and Thursday 21 st March at the Holy Family Church. Year 4 Blue’s class assembly is on Wednesday 23 rd January and Year 4 Yellow’s class assembly will be on Wednesday 13 th February. It will be lovely to see as many parents as possible at these events.

The Year 4 team look forward to a hardworking and enjoyable year. Our door is always open for a chat so please feel free to come and see us before or after school.

Best Wishes as always,

Miss.J. Lowe and Mrs.C.Norwood.
