Year 1

Welcome to Year 1.

In Year 1 your children have been placed in either blue class (Miss Woodrow) or the yellow class (Mrs Shine).

This term we will be learning about Africa and traditional tales. In English they will be practising all the sounds we have learnt to read and write new words, we will be preparing for the phonics check. Children will continue to  learn how to use capital letters and full stops to form sentences, correct handwriting formation, and develop independence in sentence construction. In Maths they will be exploring and problem solving with addition, subtraction and measurement. Children will also look for patterns in number, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Every week your child will read to an adult. This will be in an individual session or in a group guided session with a teacher. Please ensure you read with your child each day and practice any tricky words that are sent home. Your child should have a new dinosaur diary, we would love it if you could write in this each time you read with your child.

There are two PE sessions for classes each week. PE will be on Monday and Thursday for Year 1 Yellow and on Thursday and Friday for Year 1 Blue. Please ensure your child has the correct kit, all labelled, including plimsolls. On Monday mornings, the children are lucky enough to be receiving music lessons from Miss Amey who works with many schools in the local area teaching music.
