Welcome to Year 5's class page. This section of the website will inform you of what is happening this term in Year 5.
A few quick reminders:
• P.E takes place on Wednesday and Friday. Full kits need to be in school on those days, including track suit bottoms for cold weather and trainers. Please ensure that earrings are removed before your child comes to school on P.E days if your child is unable to remove them independently. Also, the kits need to be in their special yellow PE bags.
• Home Learning is set on Fridays and is due in on the following Wednesday.
• Your child will have an independent reading book. To maximise their progress in reading and therefore in writing, they must read at home for 20 minutes each day, both independently and to a willing listener. Also, please continue to make comments about your child’s reading in their reading record book. Please keep an eye on your child’s reading and ensure that their reading record book is in school with their reading book, every day.
• A key part of home learning is mental maths skills. It is important that children are pratising times tables and mental maths skills (e.g. number bonds, addition and subtraction) at home. To support children with this they have access to Mathletics and Times Table Rockstars, which are online interactive games. Children can also use the Tackling Tables cards to support their times table knowledge.
Our class Masses will be on Thursday 18th January and Thursday 1st March, at 9:30am, Holy Family Church. Our class assembly is on Wednesday 7th February at 9:00am. It is lovely to see as many parents as possible at these events.
Mrs Smith and I look forward to a hardworking and enjoyable term. The door is always open for a chat so please feel free to come and see me before or after school.
Mr J. Kelly and Mrs W. Smith
